Spotlight on Volunteers
One of our wonderful volunteers, Debbie Owen-Baker,
has been part of #teamqueenscourt for over two years in her role as a Ward Assistant.
Debbie was inspired to volunteer at Queenscourt after visiting a friend who was a patient at
the time.
She said: “At 昀椀rst I was afraid as I’d never been to a hospice before. As soon as I entered though,
I realised it is all about how valuable life is, and how totally dedicated the sta昀昀 are to making time spent
in Queenscourt as comfortable as possible.
Debbie’s favourite thing about volunteering has been getting to know the wonderful sta昀昀 and feeling
part of a team. She also enjoys attending events and meeting other volunteers.
Colin Dryden
Colin Dryden has been with #teamqueenscourt for three years as a Volunteer Receptionist.
Colin wanted to volunteer at the hospice to help provide a sympathetic voice and face for both patients
and their loved ones.
Colin said: “I didn’t have any clinical connection with the hospice before I applied, but the concept of
palliative care is one which has grown in my a昀昀ection over the last few years.
“The notion of making the best of whatever time you have left is a good general philosophy for life.
“I will always remember the hastily arranged wedding ceremony for someone who wasn’t expected to
survive the afternoon, and the lengths that sta昀昀 from all departments went to in providing a beautiful occasion.
“I would encourage anyone to consider volunteering for Queenscourt, as it’s a such a worthwhile and positive environment
to be involved with.”
Zoe Lloyd
Zoe Lloyd is one of our Volunteer Shop Assistants and has been with #teamqueenscourt for 昀椀ve
months.
Zoe was inspired to volunteer for Queenscourt after the hospice looked after her Auntie. Since then she
has helped out at a number of fundraising events such as Star Trekk and wanted to do more.
She said: “Queenscourt provides care and support to those with life-limiting conditions and also to their
family and friends - they do amazing things for our community.
“My highlight from volunteering so far was that I was featured in the volunteer newsletter with Queenie
and also the Queenscourt Facebook group. I really enjoy working with the great team here.”
“I would say to anyone who wants to join Queenscourt “Just go for it” and you will really enjoy it.”
Mandy Webb
Mandy Webb volunteers with #teamqueenscourt as a Shop Assistant and has been with us for
one year.
She decided to volunteer as she is passionate about helping people and making a di昀昀erence.
Mandy said: “Queenscourt has cared for friends and family of mine over the years. The care and
compassion they provide to patients and families is second to none. We’re incredibly lucky to have a
facility like Queenscourt in our local community.”
“I didn’t expect to make so many connections with the ladies I volunteer with. By volunteering you will
make wonderful friends, meet people from all walks of life, and make a real lasting di昀昀erence whilst
having a laugh along the way.”
